Kinja'd!!!

Found a bike I am super interested in at the right price. Sent them an email asking when I can look at it and a basic question(does it currently run, as the ad says it has been in storage since 2014). Have received zero response, but they’ve updated the ad twice since then with more pics.

You have an interested buyer, why are you trying to make your ad better and not replying to the buyer?!?!

I also emailed on an engine hoist saying I wanted to buy it and asking to set up a time. They’ve not responded, but have renewed the ad since my email.

I feel like I’m just yelling into a void here.

I’ve been running into that a lot lately. Three out of four different inquirys go unresponsive and one responds a week later. Yet they all update in the meantime..

The one that responded a week later was for a super clean Ranger for $1100. The guy didn’t respond with words, he just sent a picture of the truck.

WTF is that?

You never know what will make people respond. Way back when when I bought my Bonneville, I sent emails to...8 different people? It was the Bonneville, a Lincoln Mark VII, a W124 E320, a stick shift Maxima, a 9C1 Caprice, an LS400, and an SVT Contour. Heard back from the Lincoln guy, the Bonneville guy, and the Mercedes guy. Lincoln was a POS, Mercedes guy didn’t reply to my second email asking to meet. I ended up with a Bonneville.

Craigslist is full of idiots, both on the buyer and seller side. You don’t know how many (usually older) people who have e-mail addresses rarely check it. I more or less refuse to sell anything on CL anymore. I’d rather pay a small fee to Cycle Trader or something.

I would suspect they don’t pay attention to their emails.

If there is a number call it.

If there’s no number listed, just spam the shit out of their email until they respond.

Think you are right. So many people don’t check e-mails that often but respond to texts. I hate texts when selling because people will say crap and waste your time forever. As a seller I only respond to a phone call or e-mail. Think of it this way however, if the seller is too lazy to respond to an e-mail or answers back with the wrong info, do you really want to deal with them?

all depends how bad you want what they’re selling.

Never that desperate.

Well, it depends. If its something super rare you have to deal with it. For example there were zero other 60's Montegos for sale when I bought mine. And when I say zero, I mean there were none for sale in the country. Ebay, Autotrader Classic, Hemmings, Craigslist. Just the one I bought.

Normally there are 2 or 3 available but normally none are in my area, and none were as great a deal.

That may not be the case for most purchases but if it’s something rare or a great deal you gotta work for it sometimes.

Did you include your phone number in the email? A phone number shows you’re serious. Also, feel free to send multiple emails. Not like five in an hour. But a follow up two days later is completely reasonable.

Good point. I tend to forget that when emailing at work since my cell doesn’t get signal at work. Just sent a follow-up email giving a more specific time I’ll be in their area and my phone number.

Best of luck! And remember to try and look at the bike objectively when you get there. I know my biggest problem when looking at used bikes is glossing over problems they have with a “eh, I can fix that later” mentality because I get excited.

Yeah, I have that same problem when buying stuff. Fortunately while this is a definite a bit of a project bike(sitting for a year, advertised as needing front brakes & a turn signal housing), the price is cheap enough that even having to dump some money into it I’ll be well ahead of a ready-to-ride example.
